Vegan Options at Subway in 2022

Subway is an American restaurant chain that primarily sells submarine sandwiches. According to Wikipedia they are one of the fastest growing and largest franchises in the world and had approximately 42,000 locations in more than 100 countries as of June 2017. As plant based diets become more frequent in today’s world, this article is dedicated to looking at the all of the vegan options at Subway in 2022. 

On August 7th, 2019 Subway announced a partnership with Beyond Meat to bring plant-based Meatball Marinara subs to select locations. In September 2019, the Beyond Meatball Marinara sub will be available for a limited time only in more than 600 select locations in the U.S. and Canada. Participating restaurant locations include Jackson, Mississippi, South Bend-Elkhart, Indiana; Fresno-Visalia, California; Louisville, Kentucky, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada.

The only vegetarian/vegan option on all Subway menus is their “Veggie Delight” sandwich. As Subway is a create-you-own sandwich restaurant we have chosen to break the vegan options down into sandwich components. The following sections outline all of the vegan options at Subway.

The following are vegan-friendly bread options at Subway restaurants:

Honey Oat bread is vegan, except the honey used in the topping.

Subway does not have any vegan proteins or cheese options at the time of this wrting, but all of the following toppings are vegan-friendly:

Subway has a variety of vegan chips to choose from. The flavors available vary by store, but they typically have Sun Chips, Mrs. Vickies, and Lays to choose from. Check the ingredients list to ensure the chips are vegan before purchase.

Unfortunately, all of the dessert options at Subway contain egg or milk ingredients. This includes all varieties of cookies, brownies, and muffins.

Summary

Subway’s vegan options aren’t the best, but if you’re in need of a quick sandwich on the go then it could be a good option. The vegan winners here are the guacamole, sauces, and Beyond Meat Meatball sub (where available)!
